West Corporation

When Miller first began work with West Corporation, they were a tiny shop pioneering inbound telemarketing. West built steadily to 5,000 employees in 1992, when they added two buildings to their existing operations in Omaha and San Antonio. These two projects kicked off an explosive growth spurt: in the next 10 years, West would add 25,000 new employees.

West's rapid growth brought serious challenges. They needed to go from selecting a city to occupying a completed building within a few months. That's not easy to do when you don't have any local contacts, and it's doubly difficult for a project as complex as a call center. So West organized a team of 3 contractors they knew they could trust. This team, along with West facilities manager Kelly Olds, would travel to new cities to select and manage local contractors. Miller was a natural choice: they had worked with West for years and knew the ins and outs of call center construction. Miller's project manager would talk to city officials, find a local electrical contractor with similar "job done right" values, and then manage their team on-site.

The system worked remarkably well. West would eventually build 30 new call centers across the country, each project taking less than 5 months to full functionality. Today, Miller continues to maintain electrical work in West's Omaha facilities.
