Miller Electric’s 2011 Year in Review
Looking back at 2011, we'd be lying if we said it was a banner year. Yes, the economy still continues to bite at our backs.
And even more near and dear to us here at Miller Electric, we sadly lost a treasured team member, Ken Persinger. Ken was an integral part of Miller Electric for close to 10 years as a project manager and chief estimator, most recently playing a huge role in our bid for the Offutt Air Force Base underground project - sure to be one of Omaha's biggest.
However, thanks to Ken's efforts, as well as the rest of the Miller Electric team, we closed 2011 on top, with some key wins to celebrate:
- The TD Ameritrade headquarters new 12-story building slated for completion mid-2013. This state-of-the-art facility is a platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified project, and a perfect example of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in action.
- CSG Corporation’s new twin building headquarters in Omaha, which we're about a third of the way into.
- The brand new public middle school going up near Deer Creek in West Omaha. We're already half way done with all the electrical for this "foundation to finish" project.
- A unique Boys Town project replacing utility power coming into their campus - from a 5,000- to a 15,000-volt system. We're also working with Kiewit Construction on renovations for the Boys Town Hospital.
We’ve been busy on other fronts as well. We:
- Started a formal ethics program for the company, our “Code of Conduct” to serve as a compass to guide employees’ actions when dealing with customers and each other.
- Continued our campaign to promote electrical safety, offering NFPA 70E training for customers.
- Moved forward with a new commercial energy auditing program we’re developing in partnership with the Omaha Journeyman Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee (OJEATC) and the University of Nebraska (UNL).
- Enjoyed our ongoing work with longtime customers like the Nebraska Med Center, Alegent Health, First Data, West Corporation, and Offutt Air Force.
- And last but not least, launched our new website and blog, which garnered positive feedback from our customers and partners. Thank you for helping making this a success.
Looking ahead, we'll be celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2012. We're looking forward to expanding our community outreach efforts and humanitarian work - like the project we did with MCL Construction for the Habitat for Humanity program, Home Builders Blitz, in which we helped build seven homes in seven days on a block along North 17th Street in Omaha.
